Transfer Ownership as an Admin Feature
Introduction
Transferring ownership of Google Drive content is a common need, especially during employee offboarding, team changes, or account cleanup.
While Google Drive offers basic ownership transfer, it is limited in scope and flexibility. Folgo extends these capabilities by allowing Google Workspace administrators to transfer ownership at scale, including specific folders, entire user content, or multiple accounts at once.
Use Cases
- Employee offboarding or account suspension
- Employee onboarding or role changes
- Team or project ownership changes
- Account cleanup and data reorganization
- Ensuring business continuity when users leave the company
Before transferring ownership, we recommend cleaning the account to remove unnecessary files and backing up any important shared content. This helps avoid transferring unused data and ensures nothing important is lost.

How to Transfer Ownership (as an Admin Feature)
Option 1: Transfer Ownership of a Specific Folder
This option is ideal when you only need to transfer a defined set of files.
- Open Folgo in Google Drive (right side-bar)
- Go to Admin Tasks

- Then select Transfer Ownership
- Choose the corpus "Folder Content"

- Manually select the folder you want to transfer directly within your Drive
- Enter the email address of the new owner
- Press "Transfer" and Folgo takes care of the rest!
Folgo will transfer ownership of the selected folder and its content only. This allows precise control without impacting the rest of the user’s Drive.
Option 2: Transfer All Content From One User to Another
This option is especially useful for offboarding or suspended accounts.
- Choose the corpus "User Content"

- Enter the email address of the user whose content you want to transfer
- Enter the email address of the new owner
- Press "Transfer"
Folgo will transfer ownership of all content from the first account to the second. This ensures that important data is preserved and reassigned before the original account is deleted.
Optional Filter: Only Shared Items
When transferring ownership, you can choose to include only shared items. This is useful if you want to focus on collaborative content or avoid transferring private or irrelevant files.
This option gives you greater control and visibility over what content is transferred.
Option 3: Transfer Content From Multiple Google Accounts
To transfer content from multiple users at once, follow the same process but enter a Google Group email address as the source.
- Choose the corpus "Multiple Google Accounts"

- Enter the Google Group email address.
- Enter the email address of the new owner
- Press "Transfer"
Folgo will transfer ownership of content owned by all users in that group to the new owner you specify. This is particularly useful during large offboarding waves or organizational changes.
Conclusion
Ownership transfer with Folgo helps organizations retain control over their data without unnecessary deletion or risk. It enables clean offboarding, protects business-critical documents, and reduces manual work.
Most importantly, Folgo allows administrators to do what Google Drive alone cannot: transfer ownership flexibly, at scale, and with precision. This makes it an essential tool for managing Drive content securely and efficiently in Google Workspace environments.
